Independence Day commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the establishment of the United States as a sovereign nation. It is celebrated every July 4th, and has been a federal holiday since 1870.

Labor Day celebrates the American Labor force and is dedicated to the economic and social prosperity of workers. It is celebrated every first Monday of September, and has been a federal holiday since 1894.
